Sick to the bones from an overload of memory
Yet unable to recall which finger fired the cannon
"What's so great about anything," anyway, you chose
this, "Yea," sure, but still can't answer the one pressing question
--Why. And the other one
--Was I wrong.
"What do you remember?"
Narrow streets, redbrick homes, falling leaves scrambling in the Square
Diving into the loop around City Hall, ignoring grid lamps
Blowing smoke into bottles next to a real live river, cobbled alleys
The wide Parkway, flags, trees, chicken bones, comfort, shade
Cook dinner--doesn't help
Wonder if, maybe, I hit my head too hard
that first time. My hand still aches.
Only comfortable at the Bar, lately
Because there are no windows offering the view
of mountains that keep everything far away
Every footfall sounds like "I don't know,"
and every car engine sounds like a car
All I want is a bench
In a park
Under a tree
